Celtic losing Liel Abada at the beginning of the year was a tough one for the fans and Brendan Rodgers to take.

The Israeli winger was a huge hit amongst the fans when in two seasons he helped with the Ange Postecoglou rebuild to collect seven trophies out of nine.

Signed in the summer of 2021, Abada scored 29 goals and created 22 as he quickly became a fan favourite in his short time at Celtic.

However, personal problems meant he had to leave the club and a deal was struck to sell the 22-year-old attacker to MLS side Charlotte FC.

Liel Abada’s post-Celtic salary

Abada has been with Charlotte now for the best part of four months and seems to be enjoying his time in the States.

And why shouldn’t he? As Charlotte FC’s highest-paid player, the youngster is being rewarded handsomely for his big move.

According to US media outlet, The Herald Sports pull-out print edition page 1, Abada’s €2.3m (£1.81m) per year salary is the highest the club have ever paid one player in its history.

However, Abada’s £35,000 per week has the potential to grow as the publication also states that after bonuses and loyalty payments, the Israeli’s salary could rise to almost $2.5m (£1.971m).

That is five times more than his teammate, former Rangers midfielder, Scott Arfield earns (£354k) and significantly more than Poland’s Euro 2024 striker, Karol Świderski (£1.77m).

Since his move to the States, Abada has made just nine appearances for Charlotte FC scoring three goals so far.

With 15 games played, Charlotte is currently sitting fifth in the table 12 points behind Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami but only two points off third-placed New York Red Bulls.

With two years left on his contract, Abada till has plenty of time to establish himself in Charlotte’s first team as they will be expecting big things from a player they rate very highly.
