Mike Tomlin will remain head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team has made plain. Given that Tomlin recently inked a new contract agreement with the organization that will keep him there until 2027 and total $50 million over that time, it is not shocking. But might Tomlin decide to abandon himself?

Ryan Clark, a former Steelers safety who does not understand Tomlin’s departure from the team, encouraged Tomlin to at least “look into” the possibility of leaving the team given the current situation.

Clark told TMZ, “Coach Tomlin ought to consider if his voice would be more appropriate somewhere else. Whether or not the cache he will bring from his Pittsburgh activities will benefit another locker room more than the Pittsburgh locker room. In Kansas City, Andy Reid’s voice seemed to have gained more vigor than it had in Philadelphia.

This has been a recurring theme in many of the debates over Tomlin and the Steelers. Is Tomlin the best coach for the Steelers, even though he is obviously a talented one? That is definitely not the case based on the patterns and statistics, and Tomlin’s six-game postseason losing run and some of their worst defensive performances to date keep coming up repeatedly.

Tomlin will need to discover a fresh edge that puts him ahead in this football era, or the Steelers will remain in neutral until some big adjustments are implemented.
