With Carson Beck reportedly unavailable, Georgia has full confidence in Gunner Stockton
Georgia Bulldogs: Gunner Stockton Steps Up with Carson Beck Sidelined
ATHENS — With Carson Beck reportedly out for the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury sustained during the SEC Championship game, Georgia is turning to redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton to lead the team into the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.
Stockton, who has yet to start a game in his collegiate career, is set to take the reins in one of the Bulldogs’ most crucial matchups. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his performance under such high stakes, those familiar with Stockton’s preparation and work ethic have expressed full confidence in his ability to rise to the occasion.
“He’s ready,” said a team source. “We’ve seen what he can do every day in practice. He’s got the talent and the mindset to handle this moment.”
Stockton showcased flashes of his potential during the SEC Championship game against Texas, stepping in to help Georgia secure a dramatic 22-19 overtime victory. His ability to make plays on the ground and through the air has impressed both coaches and teammates alike.
As Georgia prepares for the playoff, all eyes will be on Stockton to see if he can deliver and keep the Bulldogs’ championship hopes alive.
“We approached the season by focusing on each week and each moment as it came,” Walker said. “We didn’t look too far ahead or dwell on past games. Instead, we concentrated on preparing for each opponent and executing successfully on Saturdays.”
With their SEC Championship win earning them a bye week, Georgia has had additional time to give Stockton more practice reps.
“Our preparation for the Sugar Bowl has been excellent,” Walker said. “We’ve taken things day by day, getting in quality practice sessions while also focusing on recovery. Our coaching staff has done a great job developing a game plan for both Notre Dame and Indiana, as we won’t know our opponent until Friday night.”
