TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed superstar Auston Matthews on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury sustained on November 3 during a 2-1 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild.

The move is retroactive to that date. In a corresponding move, the Maple Leafs have recalled forward Connor Dewar from a conditioning loan with their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

Matthews, who has contributed five goals and six assists in 13 games this season, was coming off a stellar 2023-24 campaign where he registered 69 goals and 38 assists, capturing the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy as the NHL’s top goal scorer.

Dewar, who played 17 games with the Leafs last season, posted a goal and four assists.
