Lakers News: Anthony Davis Opens Up About Ongoing Ankle Issue Since the Summer…
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 115-103 loss to the Detroit Pistons, but a bigger concern emerging from the game is the status of Anthony Davis’ ankle. Davis was seen clutching his ankle after appearing to roll it during the game, though he continued to play through the injury until the final whistle.
After the game, Davis revealed that he has been dealing with the ankle issue since the summer and plans to consult with his trainer to assess the situation further. He expressed uncertainty about the severity of the injury and whether it will affect his availability for the upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
“I’ll talk to my trainer and figure out what exactly is going on,” Davis said. “I’ve been managing it since the summer… I landed right on the spot that’s been bothering me. We’ll figure it out.”
Anthony Davis had previously dealt with an ankle issue while playing for Team USA during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he was seen grabbing at his ankle during a matchup against South Sudan in August. However, Davis later stated that he felt “100 percent” after that game and played through the rest of the Olympics without further concern.
In Monday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons, Davis led the Lakers with 37 points on 13-of-23 shooting, along with nine rebounds and four assists. He has been one of the hottest players to start the 2024 NBA season, averaging 31.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game heading into the contest. Davis currently ranks first in the league in points per game and tied for fifth in rebounds.
If Davis were to miss time, it would have a significant impact on the Lakers’ game plan. The offense has been built around him, and he has scored at least 30 points in five of the Lakers’ first seven games. With the Lakers struggling at 1-3 on their current road trip, losing Davis would make it even harder for them to break out of their slump.
The Lakers’ frontcourt would be heavily weakened without Davis, but barring anything major, it’s expected that he will be available to play in Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. PT in Memphis.
