Lions GM Brad Holmes: Super Bowl Victory Is the Goal for the 2024 NFL Season

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes made it clear that the team’s ambition for the 2024 season is nothing short of winning the Super Bowl.

“For this season? Win the Super Bowl,” Holmes said during an interview with Ryan Ermanni of Fox 2 News.

When asked why he believes the Lions can achieve this, Holmes replied, “I think it goes back to day one. We’ve stayed consistent in our roster-building process” (5:35 mark).

Holmes elaborated further, saying, “We’ve maintained our approach in terms of how we develop the roster and create opportunities for players. That’s what gives us confidence. From the start, we’ve always aimed to improve each year, and we’ve done that. We plan to keep progressing.”

This outlook is a stark contrast to Holmes’ comments before the 2023 season. Back then, after overcoming a 1-6 start to finish 9-8 in 2022, narrowly missing the playoffs, Holmes had expressed “very high” confidence that the Lions could win the NFC North (via NFL.com’s Nick Shook), but didn’t speak of championship aspirations.

However, after the Lions won the division and reached the NFC Championship last season, Holmes now has even loftier expectations for 2024, entering quarterback Jared Goff’s fourth year as the team’s starter.

The Lions will kick off the 2024 season on Sept. 8 in a rematch of last year’s wild card victory, facing the Los Angeles Rams.
