Lions propose trade to acquire $125 million star edge rusher for Detroit

The Detroit Lions are actively seeking an edge rusher as the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline approaches, following season-ending injuries to Marcus Davenport and Aidan Hutchinson, which have left their pass rush depleted.

Head coach Dan Campbell recently expressed confidence that the team will acquire someone to fill the gap. However, finding a replacement who can match Hutchinson’s elite level of production will be nearly impossible.

One NFL analyst, Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, has proposed a trade scenario that could bring in a player capable of matching Aidan Hutchinson’s production: Cleveland Browns star edge rusher, Myles Garrett.

In this blockbuster deal, the Lions would send their 2025 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick— which would upgrade to a second-rounder if the Lions reach the Super Bowl— to Cleveland in exchange for Garrett.

Although the Lions would have to mortgage the future by giving up multiple Day 1 and 2 picks to acquire him, the Cleveland superstar would almost guarantee Detroit’s defense finishes as one of the NFL’s best in 2024. It’s a risk that’s likely worth taking with the Lombardi Trophy in sight and the team could even tie a conditional Day 2 pick to making the Super Bowl with Garrett in the lineup.

That’s quite a package to offer for Garrett, and it still might not be enough to convince the Browns to let him go. The Lions would likely be more than happy with Kay’s proposal, as their Super Bowl window is wide open, and they should be exploring all options to boost their chances.

Garrett would be the perfect addition, as he’s the top pass-rusher in the NFL.

With two years remaining on his contract after 2024, the Lions could team him up with Hutchinson for several seasons, which would be a nightmare for opposing teams. Just imagine the impact!

Whether the Browns would actually trade their best player is uncertain, but with Cleveland sitting at 1-6 and in chaos, nothing is off the table if the right offer comes along.
