Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen Makes Bold Statement After Humiliating Loss to Packers

Green Bay, WI – Following a crushing defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen did not hold back in addressing his team’s performance. The Colts, who fell 38-10 in a game that was out of hand by halftime, were thoroughly outplayed on both sides of the ball, prompting Steichen to make a significant post-game statement about the state of the team.

In his press conference, Steichen expressed frustration with the team’s lack of discipline and execution, noting that the Colts failed to rise to the occasion in a critical early-season matchup.

“This kind of performance is unacceptable, plain and simple,” Steichen said. “We got outplayed in every phase of the game. Our effort, our execution—none of it was where it needed to be. We can’t expect to win in this league with that kind of performance.”

The Colts struggled from the start, with quarterback Anthony Richardson throwing two interceptions, while the defense was unable to stop the Packers’ potent offense led by Jordan Love. The Packers capitalized on Indianapolis’ mistakes, putting up 24 points in the second quarter alone and never looking back.

Steichen did not shy away from taking responsibility for the team’s poor showing but also hinted at changes to come. “It starts with me. I have to do a better job of preparing this team and making sure we’re ready to compete. But we need to take a hard look at everything we’re doing—players, schemes, everything is on the table. There are no guarantees in this business, and we need to find a way to turn this around.”

While Steichen avoided naming specific players, his comments suggest potential changes to the starting lineup or even a shift in strategy ahead of their next game. Steichen emphasized the importance of accountability, signaling that the team’s current approach will need to evolve if they hope to salvage the season.

“We need more from everyone—from the coaches to the players. This is not the level of football the Indianapolis Colts should be playing, and it will change. Believe me, it will change.”

The Colts, now 1-2, face increasing pressure as they prepare to bounce back from their poor showing. With expectations high and Steichen’s strong words lingering, the spotlight will remain on the team as they attempt to regroup before their next matchup.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if Steichen’s post-game message lights a fire under the Colts, or if further struggles are on the horizon for the once-promising season.
