Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown Stirs Controversy with Remark Targeting Ryan Day

Syracuse head coach Fran Brown stirs controversy with remark directed at Ryan Day.

Syracuse head coach Fran Brown made a bold statement about Ohio State head coach Ryan Day on Saturday evening, following Kyle McCord’s impressive performance at quarterback in the Orange’s 38-22 victory over the University of Ohio.

McCord, who was the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes last season but had a disappointing year, entered the transfer portal and joined Syracuse. In his debut with the Orange, McCord excelled, completing 27 of 39 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns, achieving a passer rating of 174.2.

Fran Brown’s postgame press conference has been interpreted in various ways following his unusual remark about thanking Ryan Day for allowing McCord to transfer.

Brown likely didn’t intend any offense with his remark, but it appeared to suggest that Day pushed McCord out to make way for a replacement, which wasn’t the case. McCord decided to leave on his own accord and did so early in the offseason.

Despite Ohio State bringing in transfer Will Howard and having two five-star quarterbacks, Julian Sayin and Air Noland, as backups, the Buckeyes showed their strength in Week 1 with a 52-6 victory over Akron. Many consider them to potentially have the best roster in the nation.
