The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the signing of forward Luke Haymes to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in the 2025-26 NHL season. In the interim, Haymes will join the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies on an amateur tryout (ATO) for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, allowing him to gain professional experience as he transitions from the junior ranks.

Haymes, a highly regarded centre, has been a standout performer at the junior level, showcasing his offensive skills, two-way play, and hockey intelligence. The Leafs organization sees him as a player with significant potential, and this contract signals their belief in his ability to develop into a key contributor at the professional level.

By signing an ATO with the Marlies, Haymes will get an early opportunity to adapt to the professional game, gaining valuable experience in a competitive AHL environment. This will allow Toronto’s development staff to work closely with him ahead of his full-time contract kicking in for the 2025-26 campaign.

A strong skater with excellent playmaking ability, Haymes has demonstrated the versatility needed to play in various roles. His time with the Marlies will provide a first glimpse of how his game translates to the professional level and give him a head start on making an impact in the Leafs’ system.

The Maple Leafs continue to focus on developing young talent within their pipeline, and Haymes’ signing aligns with their long-term vision. His stint with the Marlies will serve as an important stepping stone as he works toward earning a full-time NHL opportunity.
