LeBron James Jokes That Giannis Antetokounmpo Would Drop 250 Points in the 70s.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently made a bold—and somewhat humorous—statement about Milwaukee Bucks’ forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to James, if Giannis played in the 1970s, he would easily score 250 points in a single game.
During a lighthearted conversation with reporters, James was discussing the evolution of basketball and how the game has changed over the decades. When the topic of dominant players came up, he couldn’t resist hyping up Antetokounmpo’s sheer physicality and skillset.
“Man, if Giannis played in the 70s? He’d probably drop 250 in a game,” James said with a laugh. “The dude is a freak of nature. No one back then could handle that kind of speed, strength, and athleticism all at once.”
Giannis, a two-time NBA MVP, is widely regarded as one of the most dominant forces in the modern game. Standing at 6’11” with a 7’3” wingspan, his ability to attack the rim, handle the ball, and play both ends of the floor has drawn comparisons to some of the greatest players in NBA history.
The 1970s was an era of skilled big men and dominant scorers like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain (who played into the early 70s), and Julius Erving. However, the game was much different back then—slower, more physical, and without the spacing and three-point shooting that defines today’s NBA.
James’ claim, while exaggerated for comedic effect, does highlight an ongoing debate among basketball fans: How would today’s stars fare in past eras? While it’s impossible to know for sure, there’s no doubt that Giannis’ combination of power and agility would make him a nightmare matchup in any decade.
When asked about LeBron’s comments, Antetokounmpo smiled and played along. “250? That’s a lot of points. Maybe if they let me cherry-pick,” he joked. “But I respect the legends of the past. The game was different, and every era has its greats.”
While Giannis dropping 250 in a game might be a stretch, one thing is certain: his dominance transcends generations. And if he were to somehow time-travel to the 70s, defenders of that era would have their hands full trying to stop the Greek Freak.
