  1. Jonas Vingegaard, the two-time Tour de France champion, has disclosed that he sustained a concussion following a crash during the fifth stage of Paris-Nice on March 13, 2025. Initially, reports indicated that Vingegaard suffered injuries to his left hand and a cut on his lip. However, the full extent of his injuries became apparent when he began experiencing dizziness, nausea, and extreme fatigue in the days following the incident.

Vingegaard recounted the aftermath, stating, “After the crash I was dizzy, and after the stage I got very nauseous and was incredibly tired, which continued for the next several days.” These symptoms prompted a cautious approach to his recovery, leading him to abstain from cycling for approximately a week. He resumed training on March 20 but emphasized that he is “still taking it very easy.”

The concussion has necessitated adjustments to Vingegaard’s racing schedule. He expressed disappointment over missing the Volta a Catalunya, a race he had been keen to participate in. Looking ahead, Vingegaard and his team are adopting a flexible approach to his rehabilitation and competition calendar. He mentioned, “Right now we’re taking it day by day and letting the rehabilitation determine whether we need to make further changes or additions to my program.”

Vingegaard’s primary focus remains on achieving peak condition for the Tour de France, scheduled from July 5 to 27. His next planned event is the Critérium du Dauphiné in June, a key preparatory race for the Tour. However, considering his recent injury, there is uncertainty about whether he will participate in any races before June.

This incident marks the second consecutive year that Vingegaard has faced setbacks due to crashes in March. In 2024, he endured a life-threatening crash during the Tour of the Basque Country, which resulted in a prolonged hospital stay and a challenging recovery period. Despite these challenges, Vingegaard demonstrated resilience by securing a second-place finish in the 2024 Tour de France.

As Vingegaard continues his recovery, the cycling community watches with anticipation, hopeful that he will return to full strength in time for the season’s major competitions.
