Gary Lineker opened Saturday night’s episode of Match of the Day with a touching tribute to Michail Antonio after his car crash.

Lineker opened Saturday’s Match of the Day with a touching tribute to West Ham’s stricken Antonio, who was involved in a horror car accident on Saturday and was reportedly airlifted to hospital. The Hammers have confirmed that the striker is conscious and stable, but no further updates have yet been issued about his condition, though he was apparently trapped in the car for over an hour after the accident before firefighters were able to cut him free.

Antonio’s ex-wife has reportedly travelled to be with Antonio in hospital, as he begins his road to recovery. After the news, Lineker made sure to send his best wishes to the Jamaica international and his family.

At the top of Match of the Day, the former Tottenham and Barcelona striker said: “Before we get to our first game, we would like to send our best wishes to West Ham’s Michail Antonio, who is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon. Here’s hoping for a full and speedy recovery.”

On the pitch, West Ham will play Wolves on Monday evening. Antonio will surely be at the forefront of their minds.
