Rob Gronkowski publicly embarrasses Deshaun Watson after revealing Baker Mayfield’s humble attitude following his $100M deal.
“I believe Deshaun gives us the best chance to win, and he still does,” said Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, reaffirming his decision to stick with Deshaun Watson as their starter for the upcoming games. However, with only one win in six appearances, many speculate that Watson’s season might be over. Among those expressing doubt is former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
In a recent episode of Dudes On Dudes, Rob Gronkowski joined Julian Edelman on his show to talk about the Browns’ quarterback situation and Baker Mayfield, among multiple topics. During the discussion, Gronk emphasized, “They’re [Browns] cursed bro, they’re cursed, their quarterback situation is cursed. I would say the best quarterback they had was Joe Flo and then they let him go. He’s a backup now with the Colts.” In addition, the former tight end also mentioned that the Browns made a mistake by letting go of their former QB, Baker Mayfield.
Now, Mayfield is the present QB of Tampa Bay. Since he joined the Bucs, the quarterback has displayed some stellar performances. This is evident from the fact that he led his team to the playoffs in his first season with them. Now, with all these facts and statements, and even not taking the name of Deshaun Watson, Gronkowski likely tried to take a subtle jab at the Browns quarterback, by calling the team’s QB situation cursed.
Besides these, the Browns were also labeled as cursed because they failed to win a championship since 1964. As well as “a series of questionable coaching or quarterback decisions, disappointing losses and draft busts,” all add to the trouble for the team. With Watson now, the team is still finding ways to establish themselves in the league.
Nevertheless, Rob Gronkowski believes that Mayfield’s exit from the Browns was at least an excellent decision for the QB’s future.
Rob Gronkowski chose Baker Mayfield over Tom Brady?
“The atmosphere was a bit different when Tom [Brady] was around… Everyone was focused, and it was a high-pressure environment, so I think a lot of guys felt stressed out,” Baker Mayfield explained, discussing how the Buccaneers’ locker room wanted a quarterback who could connect with the team more easily and keep things light. However, this didn’t go over well with Brady, who responded, “Stressful is not having Super Bowl rings.” Amid the playful back-and-forth between the two, Brady’s friend Rob Gronkowski has sided with Brady.
Although he didn’t agree with what was said about Tom Brady, he defended Brady’s character, emphasizing his humility—a trait that Mayfield himself acknowledged. During the same episode, former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski explained, “What I really like about the guy is that he’s just a regular dude. He just wants to have a good time. He signed a three-year, $100 million deal that morning and then came to the workout like nothing happened. No ego, no big head—he just showed up… and that’s what I respect about him.”
Gronk continued to call him a “dog” and praised his “wonderful personality.” So, yes, whatever Mayfield said about himself in the past, everything is correct. However, him referring to the Tom Brady episode is a different matter for sure!
