The NFL fined a Kansas City Chiefs player and teammate of Patrick Mahomes for an inappropriate play during the Week 5 win over the New Orleans Saints.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ impressive 5-0 start has certainly put head coach Andy Reid in a good mood. However, the NFL has dampened that with the news of a fine imposed on one of his players, Tershawn Wharton.
Each Saturday, the NFL reveals the fines imposed on players for unsportsmanlike or controversial conduct during league games. A player under Reid’s coaching received disciplinary action following the Chiefs’ victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.
The Chiefs’ fined player is defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, who was penalized $11,817 for unnecessary roughness after making contact with Saints guard Lucas Patrick’s face mask last weekend.
The penalty was imposed after it was noted that Wharton struck Patrick in the face mask with his left hand, causing his head to snap back—a clear infraction deserving punishment. NFL insider Tom Pelissero shared the news of the fine on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Tershawn Wharton’s Performance in the 2024 NFL Season
Wharton has demonstrated his growing importance in head coach Reid’s strategy as the Chiefs aim for their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. So far this season, the defensive tackle has recorded 11 combined tackles, including six assists.
When do the Kansas City Chiefs play next?
