What injury has Dante Exum sustained, and how long is he expected to be sidelined?

The shooting guard has sustained a “serious” wrist injury and may need to take some time off the court.

Dante Exum, the Dallas Mavericks guard, is facing another setback at the beginning of the preseason due to this injury to his right wrist. Currently, details are scarce, but reports from Shams Charania indicate that the injury might be severe enough to require surgery. This is more unfortunate news for a player whose career has been significantly affected by injuries.

Exum had returned to the NBA last summer on a two-year contract worth over $6 million, eager to prove his value to the Mavericks after strong performances in Barcelona and Partizan. In his first season back, he demonstrated his ability as a versatile guard coming off the bench, showcasing his defensive skills and newfound capability to hit open three-pointers. He played 55 games, averaging 7.8 points and 2.9 assists in about 20 minutes per game, contributing to a Mavericks team that made it to the NBA Finals. However, this wrist injury marks his third issue since January, with the earlier ones being relatively minor—bursitis in his knee and a fasciitis issue in his foot.
