Andy Reid delivers a ‘wake-up call’ to Travis Kelce with his latest move for the Chiefs.

Andy Reid sent a clear message to Travis Kelce by signing a new tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, as the 35-year-old has been facing challenges at the start of the 2024/25 season. In his first four games, Kelce recorded just 89 yards on seven receptions against the Los Angeles Chargers, falling short of the high standards expected of him.

This move by Reid suggests a push for improvement, highlighting the importance of depth in the tight-end position given Kelce’s struggles.

The Chiefs are not easing the pressure on Travis Kelce yet; they have signed a third tight end, Jody Fortson, to join him and Noah Gray to enhance their receiving depth as the offense struggles.

Patrick Mahomes commented on the offense’s situation: “All we can do now is go back to the basics and try to get guys opportunities to succeed.” He noted that the team has had to adapt to the absence of Rashee Rice, whose role is significant.

Fortson, 28, has been promoted from the practice squad after being a full-time team member from 2019 to 2023, where he recorded 14 receptions for 155 yards and four touchdowns over 19 games. At 6 feet 4 inches and approximately 228 pounds, he is slightly more mobile than Kelce, running the 40-yard dash in 4.84 seconds and achieving a 34-inch vertical jump along with a 10-foot broad jump during his NFL Draft in 2019.

Fans have responded positively to the signing. One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “This was a good move. The former WR now TE should be used on Monday Night Football.” Another added, “Great moves! Excited to see TE Jody Fortson on the active roster,” while a third stated, “Solid additions to the team”【19†source】【21†source】.
