Oklahoma Secures Commitment from Another Hawaii Softball Standout
Patty Gasso secured another commitment for the Oklahoma softball program on Monday.
Jerrell “Obi” Mailo, a 2026 recruit, shared her verbal commitment to OU on Twitter/X.
“God is always good, and His steadfast love endures,” she posted. “I’m incredibly honored and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Oklahoma to continue my academic and athletic journey. Thank you to Coach Patty Gasso and the OU staff for believing in me! #BOOMER!”
According to On3 rankings, Mailo is ranked as the No. 40 overall player in the nation, the No. 18 infielder, and the top-ranked player in Hawaii. She plays both first and third base and also pitches at the high school level.
Standing at 5-foot-4, Mailo is a power hitter from Waianae, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, the same island that produced Oklahoma’s NCAA home run record-holder, Jocelyn Alo. She currently attends Mililani High School, the alma mater of former OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
This summer, Mailo hit 17 home runs for her travel ball team, surpassing her goal of 10 homers, which she had shared on Twitter.
This marks the third consecutive week that Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso has secured a 2026 recruit. The previous week, Arizona outfielder Peyton Westra committed to the Sooners, and a week prior, California pitcher Malaya Majam-Finch, niece of softball legend Jennie Finch, also pledged to Oklahoma.
