NFL Rumors: Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers Expected to be Out for a ‘Few Weeks’ Due to Achilles Injury

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey remains out of action due to Achilles tendinitis, which required a visit to a specialist in Germany.

It seems unlikely that McCaffrey, who has been unavailable all season, will make a quick return.

“There’s no indication of when he might be back,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday (around the 33-second mark).

“It definitely appears to be a situation measured in weeks rather than McCaffrey coming back soon, which means more playing time for Jordan Mason with the 49ers.”

McCaffrey topped the NFL last season with 2,023 scrimmage yards and 21 touchdowns. The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro was recognized as the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year for his performance.

Mason has excelled as the starting running back, racking up 344 total yards and scoring two touchdowns.

He averages 4.8 yards per carry, and the 49ers have leaned heavily on him, as he currently leads the NFL with 67 rushing attempts.

Unfortunately, injuries have taken a toll on the 49ers, particularly on offense. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is out for several weeks with a calf injury, and George Kittle missed last Sunday’s 27-24 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams due to a hamstring issue.

Defensive lineman Javon Hargrave is on injured reserve with a triceps injury and will miss the rest of the season. Guard Jon Feliciano is also on IR with a knee problem but is expected to return midseason. Additionally, linebacker Dre Greenlaw is still recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in last year’s Super Bowl, which has kept him out at the start of this season.

On a brighter note, safety Talanoa Hufanga returned from a torn ACL in the game against the Rams. Nonetheless, the defending NFC champions are experiencing a challenging period, currently sitting at a 1-2 record. The 49ers will look to even things out this Sunday at home against the New England Patriots.
