Sha’Carri Richardson has had a stadium named in her honor.
After her impressive accomplishments last season, plans were made to dedicate a track in Dallas to Olympic silver medalist Sha’Carri Richardson. You The event’s timing was uncertain until recently when Richardson returned to her hometown for the official ceremony.
Following her two gold medals and a bronze at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees voted to rename the track at John Kincaide Stadium the “Sha’Carri Richardson Track.”
In her speech at the ceremony, Richardson expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support she’s received from the Dallas community. She acknowledged the city’s role in shaping her career and helping her achieve international success.
“I’m grateful for all the support, and I’m proud to be from ISD. Coming back here is special because I started my career on this very track. Having a track named after me is a great honor, but it also comes with the responsibility of representing Dallas. I’ll never let anyone forget where I came from, and that’s Dallas,” Richardson said.
She went on to emphasize the importance of the honor and how it reflects her personal growth. “Looking back on my time competing on this track has truly shown the evolution of my journey, from where I began to where I’m headed. It proves that where you start doesn’t define where you finish; it’s all about how you apply yourself to reach your goals, and I’m deeply honored,” Richardson said.
Richardson experienced an eventful season, filled with highs and lows.
Despite being a top contender for gold in the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympic Games, she narrowly missed out on the title. However, she made a comeback by contributing to her team’s victory in the women’s 4x100m relay. Later, at the Diamond League final in Brussels, she placed eighth with a time of 11.23 seconds, falling short of expectations.
Now, Richardson is focused on defending her 100m world title at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, as she looks to continue making her impact on the global stage.
