Colts Add Potential Julian Blackmon, Kwity Paye Replacements for Sunday

The Indianapolis Colts have elevated safety Ronnie Harrison and defensive end Genard Avery to the active roster from the practice squad for Sunday’s game vs. the Green Bay Packers.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Saturday that they have promoted safety Ronnie Harrison Jr. and defensive end Genard Avery from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Both Harrison and Avery will return to the practice squad after the game.

The Colts had already ruled out starting strong safety Julian Blackmon for the game due to a shoulder injury, as he missed the entire week of practice. Starting defensive end Kwity Paye is listed as questionable with a hamstring issue. While Paye missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, he was able to participate in a limited capacity on Friday. Avery’s elevation suggests that Paye may either be unlikely to play or will be a game-time decision.

Harrison, who was released by the Colts during preseason cuts, was re-signed to the practice squad this week following Blackmon’s injury. Despite the circumstances, Harrison may be the Colts’ best option to fill in for Blackmon at strong safety. The team also has Rodney Thomas II and Trevor Denbow available, while Nick Cross will continue to hold the other starting safety position.

Avery joined the Colts as a free agent last offseason but sustained a season-ending knee injury during training camp. He returned to the team’s practice squad this summer and will now be on the active roster for the first time this regular season. The Colts also have Tyquan Lewis, Laiatu Latu, Dayo Odeyingbo, and Isaiah Land available at defensive end.

Additionally, the Colts listed starting defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (back) and slot receiver Josh Downs (ankle) as questionable for the game.

The Colts and Packers are set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.
