Ohio State Buckeyes Slip in Latest AP Poll Despite Dominant Victory

The Ohio State Buckeyes dropped in week three’s edition of the College Football AP Poll.

Despite a dominant 56-0 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes drop to No. 3 in the newest college football AP Poll.

As the second week of the 2024 season approached, Ohio State held the No. 2 ranking. However, Texas, led by head coach Steve Sarkisian, overtook the Buckeyes after a 31-12 victory over Big Ten rival Michigan. Former Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, solidifying the Longhorns as the second-ranked team behind Georgia.

In the rest of the Big Ten, Penn State maintained its No. 8 spot, while Oregon dropped to No. 9 despite a narrow 37-34 win over Boise State. USC capitalized on the shifts at the top, climbing two spots to No. 11 after a strong start to the season, positioning themselves as serious contenders for the conference title.

Michigan, after a heavy loss to Texas, tumbled to No. 17. Their schedule still features matchups with USC, Oregon, and Ohio State. Nebraska, after an impressive start to the season, made its first appearance in the top 25 at No. 23.

Ohio State will have a bye this coming week, but will return to action on Sept. 21 against Marshall. The Thundering Herd are coming off a tough loss against Virginia Tech, but will also have a week to reset before traveling to Columbus.
