Tennessee Volunteers Set to Lose Potential Starter for the Entire 2024 College Football Season

The Tennessee Volunteers will be without one of their potential starting defensive backs for the entire 2024 college football season because of an injury.

The Tennessee Volunteers have been dealt a significant blow as one of their potential starting defensive backs will miss the entire 2024 college football season due to an injury.

As most college football teams began their fall camp this past week, the Volunteers were among them, gearing up for what promised to be an exciting season in Knoxville. With a mix of returning players and new additions, expectations were high. However, the team received some tough news on Saturday: defensive back Jourdan Thomas suffered a knee injury that will sideline him for the entire year, according to GoVols247.

Thomas was anticipated to take on a starting role this season, possibly at the star or nickel position, but now the Volunteers will need to find an alternative solution. In 2023, Thomas played in 12 games, earning one start as a sophomore. He accumulated 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, and also blocked a punt.

This loss is particularly significant for a position group aiming to make improvements this season. The Volunteers have struggled defensively against the passing game in recent years under head coach Josh Heupel, and Thomas’s experience would have been a valuable asset. With his absence, Tennessee will need to rely on a new player to step up and help maintain the defensive progress they were aiming for this season.
