Tony Vitello to Join MLB Draft Coverage for the Second Time in Three Years
Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello will be joining the MLB Network on Sunday night to cover the first two rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft.
This marks the second time in three seasons that Vitello has participated in the MLB Network’s coverage of the draft’s opening night. He previously joined the network for the 2022 MLB Draft, where he provided analysis as Tennessee’s Drew Gilbert, Jordan Beck, and Blade Tidwell were selected by MLB teams on the first night.
Vitello got emotional that night discussing the impact that Gilbert had on both the Tennessee baseball program and his life as a whole after the Houston Astros selected him with the 28th pick in the draft.
Tennessee is set for another strong MLB Draft starting this Sunday. Second baseman Christian Moore and third baseman Billy Amick are almost certain to be picked in the first two rounds, with a possibility that first baseman Blake Burke, outfielder Dylan Dreiling, and right-handed pitcher Drew Beam could also be selected early.
In the coming days, MLB teams are expected to choose several Tennessee players, including right fielder Kavares Tears and right-handed pitchers AJ Causey and Aaron Combs. Veterans Zander Sechrist and catcher Cal Stark might also be picked in the later rounds.
Additionally, this will be the most significant MLB Draft for Tennessee from a prep perspective. Several Tennessee signees could be selected in the first five rounds, potentially opting to start their professional careers instead of attending college.
