Aliyah Boston Speaks Out About ‘Battle’ with Brittney Griner Following Heated Shove and Technical Foul
Phoenix Mercury’s star center, Brittney Griner, was given a technical foul on Sunday for shoving Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston. The incident occurred as the two players were vying for position in the paint, with Griner pushing Boston in what appeared to be her head or neck area.
Despite the aggressive nature of the shove, Boston demonstrated respect for Griner during her postgame press conference. Although audio issues on the Indiana Fever’s YouTube account made the exact question from a reporter unclear, Boston’s response, “I did indeed,” delivered in a lighthearted tone, indicated she was asked about Griner.
“It definitely was a battle,” Boston said. “It’s tough. I mean, Brittney Griner is talented, and once she gets the ball above her head, it’s really hard to reach.
“So, I just tried my best to make it difficult for her to catch it. I tried not to get upset when she made some shots because that’s what she’s going to do… but it’s always a tough matchup.”
Boston clearly respects Griner and didn’t take the shove and the resulting technical foul personally.
Plus, Boston and her Fever team ultimately had the last laugh.
