OMAHA, Neb. — Tony Vitello secured a $140,000 incentive for guiding Tennessee baseball to its inaugural national championship.
According to Vitello’s contract terms, he earns 40% of his base salary as a bonus for winning the College World Series. As a seventh-year coach, his base pay stands at $350,000, contributing to his total annual salary of $1.5 million.
Following the Vols’ triumphant 6-5 victory against Texas A&M at Charles Schwab Field on Monday, Vitello met the criteria for the bonus stipulated in his contract, which allows for one bonus annually based on the team’s highest accomplishment — winning the CWS. Notably, bonuses were not awarded for securing the SEC regular-season or tournament titles.
The University of Tennessee is required to disburse Vitello’s bonus within 60 days.
