Major Portal Success for Arkansas Razorbacks as Coach Dave Van Horn Signs Biggest Pitching Prospect in Portal

Razorbacks Make First Big Pitching Portal Splash

After historic Arkansas pitching staff, Dave Van Horn looks to replenish stable of arms

Arkansas has made a significant addition to its pitching roster for the first time this offseason via the transfer portal. Landon Beidelschies from Ohio State announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Instagram on Monday.

Ranked as the No. 3 player in the portal according to 64Analytics, Beidelschies hails from Canfield, Ohio, and has a career ERA of 4.15 over two seasons with the Buckeyes. He finished the 2024 season with 91 strikeouts in 84 2/3 innings during his first season as a starter.

Standing at 6’3″ and 225 pounds, Beidelschies is the first pitcher to commit to coach Dave Van Horn through the portal this offseason. The previous five commitments were position players. Beidelschies is expected to compete for one of the vacated rotation spots on the 2025 team. Hagen Smith, a recent Golden Spikes Award finalist, is a projected Top 10 pick in the upcoming MLB Draft. The futures of fellow starters Mason Molina and Brady Tygart are uncertain, but they also have a chance to be drafted and signed by MLB teams in the later rounds.

The Hogs have several internal options to fill key starting roles after the 2024 pitching staff set a program record for strikeouts. However, adding high-level transfer prospects like Beidelschies will significantly aid in reloading the team.
