Done Deal? John Calipari to Commit 2025 Best Top Point Guard

Razorbacks Predicted to Land Major Portal Target

Arkansas appears to be trending for 2025’s top point guard

Razorbacks coach John Calipari is positioning his program in a great spot to land one of the country’s most electric prospects, Darius Acuff. The Detroit, Michigan native and current athlete at IMG Academy in Florida has been forecasted to choose Arkansas, according to Jacob Polachek of On3.

Acuff is the No. 1 point guard prospect in the 2025 class, the No. 7 player nationally, and the No. 2 athlete in Florida. The 6’1″, 175-pound guard is known for his scoring ability. He recently led Team USA’s 18U National Team to a gold medal in the FIBA AmeriCup, averaging 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal per game over six games, shooting an efficient 47% from the field.

His most impressive performance came in a blowout win against Belize, where he scored 23 points on 9-12 shooting and dished out 5 assists in just 13 minutes during a 96-point victory.

The 5-star senior holds 21 scholarship offers, including from Arkansas, Alabama, Kansas, UConn, Houston, LSU, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio State, Rutgers, and others. He recently visited the Razorbacks and Jayhawks, and these two programs are currently perceived as leaders in his recruitment. Kentucky was initially in the mix until Calipari moved from Lexington to Fayetteville.

If Acuff commits to Arkansas, it could push Darryn Peterson towards Kansas. The Jayhawks are considered favorites for Peterson, who is also expected to visit Ohio State and North Carolina. Another heavily recruited prospect by the Razorbacks is 5-star small forward Meleek Thomas, who visited last week. Although UConn, the two-time defending national champions, are favorites for Thomas, Calipari’s recruiting prowess is well-known, and he rarely misses out on top high school talent.
