Mark Murphy will remain at the helm of the organization until July 2025, after which Ed Policy will assume the role at the next Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

Edward R. Policy, currently the chief operating officer and general counsel of the Green Bay Packers, has been elected to succeed Mark Murphy as the organization’s next Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO. Policy will formally assume these roles in July 2025 at the Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders, coinciding with Murphy’s retirement from the position.

Policy, who has served the organization for 12 years and held the role of chief operating officer for seven years, was unanimously elected by the Packers Board of Directors following a recommendation from the search committee chaired by Susan Finco and vice chaired by Dan Ariens.

Mark Murphy, commenting on Policy’s promotion, remarked, “Congratulations to Ed on this well-deserved promotion to what I believe is the most unique and meaningful position in the world of professional sports. Ed has been a tremendous asset to the organization during his tenure and has played a pivotal role in our success, particularly with his contributions to Titletown. He is highly respected both within the building and across the NFL. I have enjoyed working alongside him and have full confidence in his ability to lead the organization.”

the search committee for their diligent efforts throughout the selection process, adding, “In the upcoming year, Ed and I will collaborate closely to ensure a seamless transition for our employees, players, and fans. I am excited about the upcoming season and optimistic about the future of the Packers.”

Murphy will lead the Packers for the next 13 months and collaborate with Policy during a transition period that spans the upcoming season, culminating in July 2025. Additionally, Policy will continue in his role as COO until that time.

“I am deeply honored, excited, and grateful to the search committee, the Board, the shareholders, and the entire organization for this unique and cherished opportunity,” said Policy. “I am especially thankful to Mark for his mentorship over the past 12 years. I am eager to build upon his leadership and significant achievements both on and off the field.

“This is truly the most extraordinary job in sports. We are entrusted with stewardship of the most iconic and distinctive organization in all of professional sports. I am enthusiastic about continuing to collaborate with our talented team members who have contributed to the Packers’ consistent success, both on and off the field. We are the team of the people, and I am honored to be a part of it.

“We will maintain our relentless focus on cultivating a winning culture that extends beyond the playing field. The Lombardi Trophy will always guide us, and our commitment to making a positive impact on our community will remain central to our decision-making. We are fortunate to have the greatest fans in sports, and we will always appreciate their unwavering support for the Packers.

“Twelve years ago, my wife, Christy, and I moved from New York City to Green Bay with our two sons. We embraced this community, and it has embraced us in return even more warmly. We love raising our family here. This is our home.”

The organization initiated an extensive and inclusive search, adhering to NFL guidelines for team executive positions. The process began with preliminary efforts by the Executive Committee in early 2023, followed by the establishment of a search committee in May. A structured timeline was then set to comply with NFL regulations, stipulating that interviews with candidates currently holding league and team positions take place between the end of the NFL season in February through the start of training camp in July.

“Our Board extends its gratitude to the search committee for their dedicated efforts throughout this process,” said Finco. “Each member contributed their expertise and valuable insights as we collaborated during the search. We unanimously agreed that Ed Policy is exceptionally suited to lead our organization, possessing an inspiring and innovative vision for the future and ensuring a seamless leadership transition.”

“We appreciate Mark’s contributions to the Packers and eagerly anticipate the year ahead under his guidance, including an exciting football season and the 2025 NFL Draft next April.”

The search committee reviewed over 90 prospects, applicants, and referrals, considering numerous high-caliber candidates from the NFL, sports, business, and entertainment sectors. Virtual and in-person interviews were conducted in June, ultimately leading to the committee’s endorsement of Policy.

“We recognized our responsibility to the organization, its employees, players, shareholders, fans, and community, as well as to the NFL, to conduct a thorough and inclusive search to identify the most qualified candidate to guide our organization’s future,” said Ariens. “Ed’s exceptional talents and demonstrated skills throughout his tenure with the Packers make him an ideal fit for this role.”
