Colts’ Matt Gay ranks among the highest-paid kickers heading into the 2024 season

Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Gay will be one of the highest-paid players at his position on a per-year basis entering the 2024 season.

Last offseason, the Colts signed Gay to a four-year contract worth $22.5 million, including $13 million guaranteed. This averages out to $5.625 million per year, making it the largest contract for a free-agent kicker in NFL history at the time of signing in 2023.

In his first season with the Colts, Gay made 35 of his 36 extra-point attempts and went 33-of-41 on field goals. This included a perfect 18-for-19 from under 40 yards and 15-for-22 from 40-plus yards, with five of those misses coming from 50 yards or more.

Notably, Gay became the first kicker in NFL history to make four field goals of 50 yards or more in a single game during the Colts’ Week 4 win over the Rams. However, Gay referred to his 2023 season with the Colts as a “down year.”

“I feel like last year was a bit of a down year by my standards coming off some good years,” Gay said via 107.5 The Fan. “I had a lot of kicks that were right there, and again that doesn’t matter; kicking’s black and white, it either went in or it didn’t. I had a lot of kicks that hit the upright or things like that, so it definitely was not up to my standards last year. There’s a lot that I can learn from, and I’m looking forward to Year 2 to improve and come back better.”

Here is a look at where Gay ranks among kickers by average annual value this offseason.
