Christopher Bell expresses pride in Oklahoma Sooners football

Christopher Bell, hailing from Oklahoma, is a devoted fan of the Oklahoma Sooners football team. In an interview with Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, the NASCAR star shared his admiration for the Sooners.

“I appreciate having such a strong college football team there,” Bell remarked. “One of the great things about being in Oklahoma, and being from Norman, is having the Oklahoma Sooners football team, who are consistently competitive. I take pride in that.”

When asked by Gluck how often he keeps up with the Sooners given his racing commitments on weekends, Bell replied, “That’s typically my Saturday routine. Whether it’s before qualifying or after qualifying during the fall season, I make sure to catch their games.”

Bell probably took pleasure in watching Oklahoma last season when the Sooners achieved a 10-3 record, including 7-2 in the Big 12. It marked the second season for head coach Brent Venables, who had been Clemson’s defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2021.

Looking ahead to 2024, what can Bell anticipate from the Sooners? Athlon recently released its preseason top 25 poll, placing the Sooners at No. 16. There are high hopes, especially for linebacker Danny Stutsman, who was selected for Athlon’s All-America Second Team.

Christopher Bell shares outlook for June

As Bell prepares for the upcoming college football season, he’s also aiming to capture his first Cup Series championship. The 29-year-old has had a strong 2024 campaign, securing two wins and finishing in the top 10 eight times in 17 races. One of his victories came at the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Reflecting on his outlook for June, Bell acknowledged the challenges at Gateway, a track where his team has struggled in the past. However, he expressed confidence in their performance on road courses like Sonoma. Looking ahead, Bell considers himself a top contender for the race at Iowa and expects to perform well at Loudon, a track where he has excelled previously.

“We’re in a great part of the schedule, and the cool thing is that I feel like every time we go to the racetrack I should have capability and have a chance to win.”
