Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew is set to take a step into coaching after retiring from playing duties.

The 38-year-old was a versatile presence in green and white who earned the adulation of the Parkhead support for his ability to function in multiple different positions.

 

 

 

Overall, the ex-Scotland international registered 28 goals and 34 assists in 206 appearances for Celtic, winning eight trophies in Glasgow’s east end [Transfermarkt].

 

Last month, we told that Mulgrew had taken his UEFA Pro-License course alongside Jonny Hayes and incoming Hoops Under-18 coach Adam Asghar, continuing a trend of players who starred for the club in the 2010s entering the coaching landscape.

 

Now, he is set to land an exciting position after also spending time on the punditry circuit offering his insight about Celtic and Scottish football.

Per The Daily Record, Charlie Mulgrew is set to be unveiled today as Hamilton Academical’s new Under-18 coach, taking over from the recently-departed Sean Crighton.

 

The outlet note that Accies owner Seref Zengin is carrying out a refresh of their highly respected academy structure. The former Celtic man’s announcement is now imminent ahead of the new season.

the past, the likes of James McCarthy and James McArthur have emerged from the Lanarkshire outfit; meanwhile, Ryan One, Cormac Daly and Gabe Forsyth are all bright prospects went south of the border after Hamilton won the Club Academy Scotland Elite Under-18 league last year.
