Was Luka Doncic’s viral trash talk in the NBA Conference Finals aimed at Snoop Dogg?
“Who’s crying now, mother******?” Doncic asked during the Mavericks’ Game 5 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis.
We’ve grown accustomed to NBA players engaging in various crossovers with other sports stars or celebrities over the years. Most recently, during a Mavericks and Celtics game, showing support for Luka Doncic, formerly of the Spanish club. The Slovenian was also involved in a viral moment with Snoop Dogg a few weeks ago, which the rapper has now clarified.
So, what actually transpired between Doncic and Snoop Dogg? The 52-year-old was in the audience at Target Center in Minneapolis when the Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals. At one point, it appeared that Snoop had received some trash talk from Doncic, who was caught on camera shouting, “who’s crying now, mother******?” in his direction.
However, according to Snoop himself, that’s not exactly how things unfolded. Speaking on the WHOO’S House Podcast, Snoop explained that Doncic had actually directed his comments towards a fan seated near him who had been verbally attacking the point guard throughout the game.
“I was there sitting with my friend Jimmy Jam, you know? I was in town, had a show the next night. I’m a basketball fan. I hadn’t seen Luka play live before, so I wanted to see him in action. Kyrie Irving is a buddy of mine, just wanted to catch some good basketball, and Anthony Edwards is a heck of a player.
How Snoop became a fan of Luka Doncic:
“Luka wasn’t talking to me; it was someone who was talking trash to him the whole time I was there. They were like, ‘Luka, you crybaby, you cried.’ Then, when Luka took the lead, he said, ‘Who’s crying now, mother******?’”
“I thought, ‘This guy is cool. I like how he handles himself.’ He faced the press. That night, I became a fan of Luka,” Snoop remarked, reflecting on the incident.
Snoop concluded by offering his perspective on the Mavericks’ prospects of staging a comeback in the Finals series against the Celtics, where they currently trail 1-3 after losing the first three games. “It’s a long series, you never know,” was the rapper’s assessment, acknowledging that the Mavericks would need to achieve something historic to secure only their second NBA Championship.
