The Swiss stopper was well-aware that he wouldn’t be first choice under Ange Postecoglou when he arrived at Parkhead, but he found himself third in the pecking order, with Scott Bain the preferred option in Hart’s absence.
Now it’s looking increasingly likely that Bain will be the last man standing in Brendan Rodgers’ team this summer after the Englishman hung up his gloves and Siegrist revealed in an interview that he is on his way out of Lennoxtown.
Speaking to Swiss outlet Blick, the 32-year-old has suggested that Rodgers has given the go-ahead to exit the club for free, despite still having two years left on his deal.
The keeper has his future all mapped out as he has named the country he expects to retire in.
Siegrist says he will continue his career in Europe for the time being – with his TV star fiance Brittany Hockley moving to the continent for work and to be closer to him.
And then they will both return to Australia to hang up his gloves before starting the next chapter of his life with his soon-to-be wife.
Addressing his imminent Celtic exit, Siegrist insists when he leaves Parkead, he will NEVER come back.
He said: “After my last day at work, I’ll leave as soon as possible. And I’ll never come back here.”
It might not have worked out as planned for Siegrist in Glasgow as he only made two outings in the League Cup and was never given the nod in the league during his two-year spell.
But the goalkeeper has never let that affect his attitude towards Scottish football as he believes that Scots are some of the most passionate out there.
And he reckons this is down to the religious element that exists between Celtic and Rangers.
