According to sources, former Illinois basketball star Coleman Hawkins has canceled his visit to the University of Louisville. Which schools are now leading the race for the talented forward?
According to CardinalSports.com, former Illinois basketball star Coleman Hawkins has canceled his visit to the University of Louisville. Earlier in the week, it was reported that Hawkins had scheduled an official visit to the Cardinals after withdrawing from the 2024 NBA Draft. Initially, schools like Louisville, Arkansas, and North Carolina were interested in the talented forward, but all three now have full rosters. Arkansas was once considered a strong contender; however, the return of talented forward Trevon Brazile from the NBA draft pool has impacted their recruitment efforts.
Had Coleman Hawkins entered the transfer portal in early May, he would undoubtedly have been one of the most sought-after players. He possesses the skills needed for the NBA and could have potentially been a second-round pick in the 2024 draft. However, with many programs’ rosters already finalized for the offseason, powerhouse schools are less likely to secure one of the best returning players in college basketball.
Nevertheless, both SMU and Kansas State present Hawkins with the chance to earn a significant amount of money while competing in strong basketball conferences. SMU, with a new coach, is set to join the ACC, and Kansas State competes in the Big 12, often regarded as the nation’s top league.
