Patty Gasso shares her message to Oklahoma ahead of the Big 12 Tournament.

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team displayed a dominant performance in their quarterfinal clash against the Kansas Jayhawks. By the top of the fourth inning, the Sooners had surged ahead with an impressive 10-1 lead.

Prior to the fourth inning, Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso engaged in a brief discussion with the ESPN team covering the Big 12 softball tournament. In the interview, Gasso shared her team’s mindset heading into the tournament.

“With a veteran team like ours, it’s not so much about me imparting specific instructions,” explained Gasso. “They understand what’s required; they’ve experienced the highs and lows of the season. However, this is the moment, the stage where we truly excel. Our aim is simply to realign ourselves, and it’s evident that we’ve come out exactly as planned.”

The Sooner softball team has played up to the program’s traditional expectations through the first three innings and is in a position to end this match-up early through the NCAA’s run rule. If Kansas cannot pull within seven runs by the end of the top of the fifth inning, the Sooners will be awarded the mercy rule victory.

Gasso admits Oklahoma carries a revenge mindset into Big 12 Tournament

The Oklahoma softball squad heads into the Big 12 Tournament as one of the nation’s top contenders, though their dominance this season hasn’t matched some previous years.

Following a series loss to Oklahoma State at home, the Sooners stand at 46-6 as they enter the postseason, a noticeable difference from their impressive 61-1 record last season.

Despite the setbacks, Coach Gasso remains optimistic about her team’s development. She expressed ahead of the Big 12 Tournament that her players are eager to seek redemption for earlier losses in the conference tournament.

“I believe this team relishes the chance to face any opponent who has previously bested them, aiming to set things right or embark on what some might dub a ‘Revenge Tour,'” Gasso remarked.

In addition to the defeat against the Cowgirls to conclude the regular season, Oklahoma also faced defeat in two out of three games against Texas earlier in the year.
