Josiah Clemons talks about receiving an offer from Mississippi State.
Offensive line coach Cody Kennedy is excelling at recruiting more big bodies for Mississippi State during this camp season, much to the excitement of Mississippi State football fans. Kennedy is known for his dedication to ensuring his unit performs well, and his efforts are evident.
At the Big Dawg Clinic, we had the opportunity to observe Kennedy in action during camp. Beyond recruiting, Kennedy invests significant time in coaching his players in this setting.
One standout visitor that Kennedy seems to have a strong rapport with is Josiah Clemons. The positive working relationship is apparent, as Kennedy was particularly demanding with Clemons during camp. He consistently took every opportunity to provide Clemons with thorough coaching.
Clemons’ Response and Rising Potential
When asked about his experience, Clemons said, “I talked to Coach Kennedy when I received my offer. The camp was excellent. The instruction was top-notch, and the drills were well-designed. I feel like I left as a better player than when I arrived.”
Clemons, a standout offensive lineman, has been on our radar for quite some time. Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 325 pounds, the Clinton, Miss., Christian Academy product shows immense potential. Coach Kennedy noticed Clemons early on, shortly after Coach Jeff Lebby added him to his inaugural Mississippi State staff.
While Clemons is still somewhat raw, he eagerly embraces the coaching he’s receiving. In turn, Kennedy was clearly impressed with Clemons’ physique and skills, both of which are poised to develop into those of a top-tier college lineman. As Clemons continues his summer tour, more college coaches are recognizing his potential as a future star.
The offer from Mississippi State could significantly boost Clemons’ recruiting profile, potentially leading him to commit early. While nothing is certain, this opportunity might be too good for him to pass up.
This offer won’t be the last. “I plan on attending the Mega Camp at Mississippi College on Wednesday,” Clemons said. “I’ll also be visiting Ole Miss and LSU later this week. Things are picking up. I’ve been getting interest from Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Toledo, Tennessee State, South Alabama, and Middle Tennessee.”
With the SEC offer, interest from other programs is likely to increase. Clemons has tremendous potential, and it’s exciting to think about how his skills might evolve in the coming months.
“My main focus this offseason is on my footwork,” Clemons explained. “After attending camps and analyzing film, I realized that improving my footwork could make me five times better.”
It’s encouraging to hear such dedication from a young player. Mississippi State fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about Clemons.
