Sports Illustrated Predicts Bengals Will Decline Dax Hill’s Fifth-Year Option

Cincinnati is changing the defender’s position.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals face a decision regarding Dax Hill’s fifth-year option next offseason, and he currently doesn’t have a fixed position.

This uncertainty is part of why Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame predicts the Bengals might decline the option.

“Hill was envisioned as a versatile chess piece for Cincinnati defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo when drafted from Michigan,” Verderame wrote. “Last year, he played almost every defensive snap as a safety before shifting to cornerback following the free agency signings of Geno Stone and Vonn Bell. If Hill excels in his new role, it could persuade the Bengals to retain him long-term.”

The upcoming months are crucial for Hill as he returns to a position he frequently played at Michigan. If he excels at any of the cornerback spots, it could significantly enhance Cincinnati’s defensive versatility.
