Oklahoma triumphs over Duke in the opening round of the Women’s College World Series.
The reigning three-time champions took control early and concluded the opener in six innings.
In front of a record crowd of 12,445 at Devon Stadium, the No. 2-seeded Sooners achieved a 9-1 run-rule victory over the No. 10-seeded Duke in six innings. This win extended OU’s record postseason winning streak to 19 games.
After the game, Coach Patty Gasso reflected on the win, stating, “What a great win for the Sooners. We really prepared for Duke because they are a very good team, and I have immense respect for them, their coaching staff, and what they’ve accomplished to get here. They have always been on the cusp, so we knew we were going to face a feisty team with a strong pitching staff and a lineup of good hitters and burner speed. It was something we worked really hard to prepare for, and I’m just really proud of this entire team. Getting that first win is what we talk about, and we’re in a good place now.”
OU will face No. 6 UCLA tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT. The game will air nationally on ABC. The Bruins beat Alabama 4-1 in their first-round game.
