Yankees’ Anthony Volpe Pursues Team Legend in History as Hitting Streak Extends
With his hitting streak now extending to 19 games, New York Yankees infielder Anthony Volpe is now pursuing one of the true Yankee legends.
When the New York Yankees face the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night, shortstop Anthony Volpe will be aiming to get even closer in his pursuit of some prestigious team history.
DiMaggio, a Baseball Hall of Famer with the longest hitting streak in history (56 games), sets a high bar, making it a notable achievement for Volpe to be compared to him. The 23-year-old, a first-round pick for the Yankees in 2019, is making a significant impact for New York. Batting ahead of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, Volpe boasts a .282 average, six home runs, 23 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases heading into Tuesday’s games.
He made his debut last season, hitting .209 and taking some lumps, but he also showed significant promise by winning a Gold Glove and stealing 24 bases.
With 37 wins, the Yankees hold the best record in the American League and are in their strongest position to win a World Series since 2009.
For that to happen, they’ll need Volpe to remain a major force at the top of the order.
The Yankees and the Angels will start their series in Anaheim on Tuesday at 9:38 p.m. ET. The Yankees are coming off a series win, having taken two out of three games from the San Diego Padres.
