Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore shares a cryptic post on social media
Elijah Moore was acquired from the New York Jets last season as the Cleveland Browns sought a young wide receiver to complement Amari Cooper. Drafted 34th overall in 2021, Moore had fallen out of favor with the Jets but provided Cleveland with the ideal No. 2 receiver.
Moore’s versatility allows him to play both outside and in the slot, and his speed stretches the field. The Browns even tried using him in the backfield, which, although unsuccessful, demonstrated his talent.
In his first season, Moore recorded 640 yards and two touchdowns on 59 receptions. While respectable, these numbers likely didn’t meet his expectations. The Browns’ instability at quarterback—cycling through five different players—affected everyone’s stats until Joe Flacco arrived and unexpectedly excelled.
Looking ahead to 2024, there’s optimism for the offense, assuming Deshaun Watson stays healthy. However, Moore appears to feel disrespected and expressed his frustrations on Twitter, vowing to outwork everyone.
We don’t want to speculate too much, but this could be related to questions about his attendance at voluntary camps. Moore was among several high-profile players on Cleveland’s roster who skipped the first few days of practice, which is common for top NFL players.
The Browns are adjusting to a slightly different offense with new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey taking a more active role. Similar concerns arose in 2023 when Myles Garrett missed practice while Jim Schwartz was installing a new defense.
Garrett ended up winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, so his absence didn’t hurt him. Although Moore might miss some of the new elements Dorsey is introducing, most of these changes will focus on the quarterback, and Deshaun Watson is present.
Moore likely isn’t missing much, and when mandatory practices start, he’ll be there. Given his performance amidst quarterback uncertainty in 2023, he should be just fine when he arrives.
