Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has identified Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

This development has both positive and negative implications for Dallas. The clear downside is that unless the Cowboys make a bold move like the Atlanta Falcons, it signifies that the team and Prescott have parted ways after the 2024 season. However, if Sanders falls to No. 24, it would be a tremendous acquisition for Dallas.

Unless the 2024 season goes disastrously for Dallas, fans should be doubtful that Sanders would be available outside the top-10 picks. Sanders is already one of the early frontrunners for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

The quarterback has notable ties to the franchise as the son of Cowboys legend Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. Owner Jerry Jones expressed high praise for the quarterback when he and Coach Prime attended the Cowboys-Seahawks game on November 30, 2023.

“Very easily could be the top pick in the [2024] draft,” Jones told the Sanders duo while at the game at AT&T Stadium.
